Electroless Nickel Plating
Electroless Nickel coatings have many unusual
properties which make them suitable for wide
range of functional applications. Most
applications take advantage of the hardness,
lubricity, corrosion resistance, electrical and
magnetic properties as well as its ability to
cover complex geometries internal as welll as
external surfaces.
PROPERTIES
CORROSION RESISTANCE
A pit-free, barrier coating with excellent resistance to attack by all. Can withstand 1000+ hours in salt spray test in accordance with ASTM B 117.
WEAR RESISTANCE
Coating's hardness is 480- 500 1HN as deposited and can be increased up to 1000 VHN with heat treatment at 400 C for 1 hour. Value of Taber Wear Index for heat treated is 4 mg/1000 cycles.
ADHESION
Excellent adhesion can be achieved on wide range of substrates including steel, aluminum and copper alloys. Typical bond strength on iron is 340-410 MPa and on aluminum is 100-240 MPa.
UNIFORMITY
The deposit is uniform throughout the surface irrespective of shape. Uniform deposition leads to low Coefficient of friction 0.09< COF< 0.40.
STRUCTURE
The coating's composition is an alloy of 6-9% alloy of Phosphorus in Nickel and is completely amorphous as plated. During heat treatment, particles of Ni3P precipitate and coating crystallizes.
